2022 - 2024 Alternative Perspective of Faculty Mentoring in Higher Education – The Case of International University in Uzbekistan
Within the intensely competitive academic landscape, it is imperative for higher education institutions to cultivate both staff development and career aspirations. Effective faculty mentoring practices can help to address prevailing challenges of the academic environment, resulting in enhanced professional growth and an improved sense of collegiality and involvement among academic staff members. In the present study, the researcher analysed the current state of mentoring practices within higher education institutions in order to offer recommendations for improvement. The researcher used qualitative methods of research design and a case study research approach to investigate the experiences and perceptions of faculty members involved in the mentoring process. The results contributed to the understanding of faculty mentoring challenges and limitations. Based on data analysis, the researcher developed and proposed an alternative model of faculty mentoring, taking into consideration the uniqueness of the discipline and factors of institutional diversity. The researcher suggests implementing the alternative model of faculty mentoring by taking into account the distinct characteristics, formation and organisational framework of the educational institution.
