2023 - History of English Language Teacher Education Curriculum in Uzbekistan
The primary focus of the given research project will be on identifying trends and patterns in the adoption of various teaching methods and approaches that dominated and were widely employed in English language teacher education at higher education institutions that specialize in preparing the so-called philologists and teachers of English. The objectives of the research are: • To develop an empirically informed periodization of ELT in Uzbekistan with a focus on English teacher education curriculum. • To trace the major shifts in the approaches and methods to training English teachers in higher education institutions within former Soviet Uzbekistan and Independent Uzbekistan. • To identify major social, political, and cultural factors that contributed to the adoption of certain approaches and methods in English language teacher education curriculum and ELT in general. • To discuss how the history of ELT informs future foreign language teacher education policies and curriculum development in the context of Uzbekistan.

- The Impact of Sociodemographic Factors on IELTS Test Takers’ Scores in Uzbekistan
Recently, Uzbekistan has witnessed a growing demand for IELTS exams among its population, especially the youth. IELTS certificates are widely accepted and used across higher education institutions in Uzbekistan and beyond, particularly in admitting students to studies at a tertiary level and incrementing salaries in educational and non-educational organisations. Attaining an IELTS certificate, especially with a score of above 7.0, has become a sign of exceptional achievement in the Uzbek society. However, little research, if any, has been conducted on the influence of sociodemographic factors on candidates’ exam preparation experiences and results. Thus, the proposed research study aims to explore the relationship between test takers' age, gender, region, linguistic capabilities, access to online resources in various languages and IELTS scores, identify any disparities in average scores across demographic groups and propose recommendations to improve score equity and support systems. The study will employ both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The data provided by the British Council Exams Services will be exposed to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with 150 IELTS test takers to gain insights into their exam preparation experiences. The research findings will help inform future policies and support systems relevant to the context of Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
